What Hotel Owners Need to Know about Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

Bed BugTiny, oval shaped bed bugs almost look like ticks and do basically the same thing.  When humans or other animals are asleep, the bugs begin biting and sucking blood.  The bites are not felt because the bed bug has a type of anesthetic in its saliva that numbs the area.  Their bites will be visible on the skin as little red bumps, slightly raised, sometimes turning into blisters and usually in a line of three. These visible bites are bad news for hotel owners and can mean a drastic reduction in visitors (that’s why you need to learn about getting rid of bed bugs).  It is because of the bites and constant itching that most people become desperate to eradicate them and find out that it is not easily accomplished.

Bed bug bitesEradication of bed bugs is difficult because they hide well in cracks and crevices, behind walls and door facings.  They hide in your clothes, suitcases and furniture, multiplying fast and moving from place to place with you.  Bed bugs are often very hard to detect in any location without thoroughly looking and searching for them.

Bedbugs can survive for a year without eating which causes some to think they are rid of the bugs after treatment when in fact, they are hiding behind the wall or some other place waiting.

Bed bugs multiply at least three generations within a year.  The female lays her eggs away from the group, within five feet of the food source, which means that even in breeding there is spreading.

Exterminators can be very costly, but quite often can do the job.  They will use sprays to kill the bugs or even very hot heat if the sprays fail to work.  You may find that you want to try to do it yourself.  If you do, you want to begin by cleaning absolutely everything in your hotel.  Vacuum your mattress thoroughly in all the cracks and crevices.  Wash your clothes and all the bed sheets and blankets in very hot water.  It seems that the key to getting rid of the bugs is heat.  The heat must be hotter than 220 degrees Fahrenheit.    Some have tried hair dryers but have only temporarily moved the bugs back.  The heat must be constant and timely.  Others try Neem oil which seems to work only temporarily also.  It is best to call your exterminator right away to get rid of the bed bugs in your hotel.

Online College: Is It Right for Me

Many students think that online college is a breeze.  However, online colleges are not easy.  Often, online college courses can be much more difficult than courses taken on campus with an instructor that you see face-to-face on a weekly basis.  Online college is not right for everyone.

To succeed in an online college, you need to be very determined and self-disciplined.  When attending an online class, you don’t get the verbal interaction with an instructor and therefore, you do not receive the teaching style that most students have grown accustomed to.  When attending a college course online, it’s important to keep all assignment due dates and test dates on a calendar.  If you miss something, the instructor is very unlikely to let you make it up; I speak from several years of experience.  Online college is not right for you if you aren’t organized or if you don’t have a good work ethic.  It’s important to be able to schedule time for your school work each week, just as you would if you were actually leaving home and attending class at the college.

Unfortunately, many college students assume that online college will be easy and that work can just be put off until they feel like doing it.  This is not at all the case.  You must work diligently and log-in to your courses frequently in case there are any changes to due dates or new assignments posted.  Online colleges aren’t right for everyone, but someone who is both organized and self-disciplined is a great candidate.
