For me the trip is a reward, something that tells me that I’ve ‘done good’ this least three years and made it through to the other side. In a nutshell I got ill, then had to deal with the recovery, then lose weight (which I’d gained due to the illness), then I lost my job, my marriage fell apart, I had to move … it felt never ending.

This coming getaway if, for me, a big fat pat on the head! And trust me, no one deserves it more. I’m also going alone, having mulled over the should I/shouldn’t I go with a friend. I figured that as much as I’d enjoy the company, perhaps going it alone would really help me to focus on ‘me’ the whole five days.

Looking back, and as crazy as it sounds, the hardest part of it all was losing the weight. The illness turned out to be Hypothyroid Disease, and the weight gain was in excess of 30lbs in total. As it had crept up on me, I figured my best course of action was getting it off the same way – slowly. I used a weight watchers coupon to get started, then tackled my long-term eating habits.

Three months in my marriage dissolved (I kinda saw it coming so … ) and from that point the weight fell off on its own. So much for weight watchers – trust me the divorce diet is much more effective!
